Pune: Golfing enthusiasts in Pune will get to witness strongest-ever pro field at the Pune Open golf championship which will see Asian Tour regulars—Ajeetesh Sandhu, Khalin Joshi, S Chikkarangappa, Chiragh Kumar and Rahil Gangjee—in action over the next four days at the par-71 Poona Club golf course here from Tuesday.
The Rs 30 lakh Pune Open golf presented by Kolte Patil is the sixth event of the PGTI’s 2018 season. The Pro-Am event is scheduled for April 14.
Rashid Khan, Himmat Singh Rai and Viraj Madappa and the other prominent golfers such as Shamim Khan (2017 PGTI Order of Merit champion), Udayan Mane, Harendra Gupta (2016 champion), Mukesh Kumar and Shankar Das will also be seen in action.
The foreign challenge will be led by defending champion Anura Rohana of Sri Lanka as well as his compatriots N Thangaraja and K Prabagaran, Bangladesh’s Md Zamal Hossain Mollah, Australia’s Kunal Bhasin and South African Damian Naicker.
Pune-based golfers in fray are Gurki Shergill, former TATA Open champion, Pravin Pathare, Sameer Shaikh, Akshay Damale and Sagar Raghuvanshi and amateurs Jay Shirke and Pratik Nirmale.
This is a 72-hole stroke-play tournament will feature a field of 125 professionals.
