Strong F3 points haul for Jehan Daruvala at Spa

Pune: Sahara Force India Academy racer, Jehan Daruvala finished strongly in the top 5 in all 3 races of Round 6 of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

Jehan showcased solid pace throughout the weekend, which as expected at Spa, was fraught with inclement weather and rapidly changing conditions. The Mumbai youngster, driving for Carlin Motorsport, had to quickly acclimatise to the environs and the car setup was slated to play a crucial role in the outcome as well.

Running alongside the legendary 24 hours of Spa Sportscars Endurance, heavy rain featured in both practice sessions which allowed drivers to understand the car’s limit in wet weather while allowing the teams to fine-tune the setup for the notorious Ardennes rain.

In the first race of the weekend, Jehan made solid progress from seventh on the grid - gaining a place at the start and was looking poised to make further inroads but an incident between Callum Illot and Jake Hughes brought out the safety car on the opening lap.

For race two, Jehan decided to go switch to a different downforce setup that theoretically would have allowed him faster in the flowing sector two, at the expense of some straight-line performance in sectors one and three.

By race three, the team had a good fix on Jehan’s setup and things were looking good to round off the weekend on a strong note. Starting sixth, the Indian driver made his way up to fourth place by lap three. But Jehan suffered a massive lockup soon after, which ended up flat-spotting his tyres and leaving him with a massive vibration and he lost three places as well.

Jehan’s efforts also saw him earn 3 podiums in the rookie classification. He was second in the first & third race, while emerging as the rookie winner in the second race. His strong points haul saw him cement his second position in the rookie standing & fifth in the overall standings. in his maiden season racing in F3.
