St Ursula, SAKEMS and PCMC begin with wins

PUNE: St. Ursula School, Shri Anantrao Kulkarni English Medium School and PCMC School got off to winning starts, while host’s Loyola High School suffered an opening day heartbreak in the inaugural Father Schoch Memorial (Under-14) Inter-School Hockey tournament at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri on Monday.

The day began with Narayangaon-based Anantrao Kulkarni School edging out BK Birla Centre of Excellence by a solitary goal 1-0 in a Pool-A fixture. The match winner was scored by Adwait Khokrala (36th minute) after both were locked 0-0 at halftime.

BK Birla were unlucky to go down as they missed four easy chances via captain Tejas Jehalia, aryan Newale, Bramha Kalamkar and Kalash Agarwal. 

Results: Pool A: St. Ursula School, Akurdi 3 (Jaskaran Singh 26th, Om Kute 28th, Sydney Fernandes 38th) bt Jyoti English Medium School, Nehrunagar 1 (Rehan Tarasgaar 34th). 

Shri Anantrao Kulkarni English Medium School (SAKEMS), Narayangaon: 1 (Adwait Khokrala 36th) bt BK Birla Centre for Education, Shirgaon: 0. 

Pool B: PCMC 2 (Ritesh Tarkase 8th; Ganesh Athawale 35th) bt Loyola High School: 1 (Chetan Patil 30th).

TUESDAY’S FIXTURES
- Pool-B: Modern High School v Loyola High School (10 am); PCMC v Netaji Subashchandra Bose Boys Military School (11.30 am)
- Pool-A: Jyoti English Medium School v Shri Anantrao Kulkarni English Medium School (1 pm); SNBP v BK Birla Centre of Education (2.30 pm).
