Pune: Various sports personalities were felicitated with the Major Dhyan Chand Sports Awards on the occasion of the National Sports Day in a program which was held at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Pimpri here on Wednesday.
Organised by Ajinkya Cricket Club, the event saw various sports personalities being felicitated for their contribution and service in the field.
Those who were felicitated and awarded include Manoj Bhore, Firoz Shaikh, Smita Kshirsagar, Asha Dhowle, Sandeep Jadhav, Pawan Shah and Santosh Mhatre.
The chief guests for the event were Olympian Vikram Pillay, Vijay Santan, District Sports Officer, Pune, hockey player Akash Chikte, Manoj Kadam, Shridharan Thamba and Stanley D’Souza.
Also present on the occasion was Pavan Shah, a resident of Chinchwad who has been selected as the captain of the India Under-19 cricket team which will be participating in the Asia Cup in Dhaka in September.
