PUNE: The horse racing season has commenced in the city with high octane racing activity at the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC). One of the highlights of the racing calendar is the Southern Command Gold Cup race which is scheduled to be held at the Pune horse racing track on Saturday. The race will be a big ticket event with participation from a large number of racing enthusiasts along with military personnel of Pune station.
The much awaited annual event hosted by the Army’s Southern Command headquartered in Pune has a number of unique features. Apart from the race, the event will include the traditional combat demonstration, showcasing the operational capabilities of Southern Army and will include mock drills by helicopters, tanks, BMPs and the Para Commandos. There will be a tent pegging and dressage show by the cadets of National Defence Academy (NDA) and the military band in attendance will mesmerise the audience with inspiring martial music.
Lieutenant General DR Soni, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command accompanied by a large number of military and civil dignitaries will be attending the event. The Army Commander will also felicitate the winners and other associated functionaries of the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC), Pune at the end of the event.
