Snehal wins doubles title in Coimbatore

The city girl was rock solid in the qualifiying rounds as she defeated Manasa Sivakumar (8-2) and Sri Sai Shivani (10-2) respectively.

Pune: Snehal Mane added one more addition to her winning kitty as she won the doubles title partnering Nidhi Surpaneni in the 50K AITA women’s Tennis tournament held in Coimbatore.

Snehal and her Hyderabad-based partner Nidhi Surpaneni defeated opponents Lasya Patnaik and Akshaya Suresh 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the trophy.

“We started service in the first set, the score was 2-all before we managed to break Lasya and Akshaya, took the lead and won the first set 6-2,” Snehal told Sakal Times.

“Second set was much more tougher than the first as our opponents came hard on us and it was 4-all before we won the set 6-2 to win the title,” added Snehal.

Snehal’s battle in the single event came to an end in the semi-final as she was ousted by her double partner Nidhi 4-6, 4-6.

“I started as the qualifier in the tournament as I had forgot to send my entry  for the tournament earlier. I performed well to reach the semi-finals, but Nidhi played really well and I ended on the losing side,” said Snehal who is pursuing her commerce graduation from Symbiosis College.

In the main draws, Snehal got the easy passage in the second round as she defeated Rutvi Chaudhari 6-1, 6-1. Second round match against Akshya Suresh turned out to be a hard fought match. Snehal won the first set 7-6 before going down in the second set 3-6. In the final set Snehal manged to win 6-2.

The quarter-final turned out to be cakewalk as she beat Priya Naik 6-1, 6-1 but she could not continue her form as shed failed to cross the semi-final hurdle.

Quaterfinal: Priya Naik 6-1, 6-1.
Second rd: Akshya Suresh 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.
First rd: Rutvi Chaudhari 6-1, 6-1.
