Pune: Hosts SNBP Academy, Hockey Coorg, defending champions MP Academy and Bhilwara Hockey Academy stormed into the quarterfinals with contrasting victories over their opponents in the 2nd SNBP All-India Hockey Tournament 2016 (Boys’ Under-16), at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi, on Tuesday.
The match of the day was witnessed in Group-B in which SNBP Academy prevailed 5-4 over Hockey Sindewahi in an evenly contested battle which was settled via Suraj Mane’s twin strikes in the last five minutes of play.
Aware that a victory would help enter the knock out round, both teams maintained their opponent did not go out of reach in scoring. SNBP academy drew first blood when Chirag Mane (5th) converted a penalty corner to go up 1-0.
Shivam Nagapure (18th) levelled scored for Hockey Sindewahi.
It took a minute thereafter for SNBP to lead again when Naresh Chatole (19th) scored. On resumption, Akshay Shende (33rd) levelled (2-2). SNBP suffered a setback when Hockey Sindewahi Suraj Chandankhede (44th) turned tables to take the lead.
However, SNBP turned tables with Permeshwar Jadhav (48th) making it 3-3. SNBP fell in arrears via a Md. Zuber Qureshi (50th) strike before Chirag Mane stepped in with a
two-goal effort.
MP Academy rolled ahead from Group-A with a massive 11-0 win over Hockey Ghaziabad with Ali Ahmed netting thrice and Satyam Barde, Hemam Amarjit, Shreyas Dhupe and Haider Ali scoring twice.
From Group-F, Bhilwara Hockey Academy walked into the quarterfinals when Hockey Kerala did a no show, while Hockey Coorg settled for a 4-0 victory over GHPS Adacemy
from Group-C.
