Shrivalli, Salsa upset seeds to enter semis

Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Pimrada Jattavapornvanit, Salsa Aher and Ryuhei Azuma knocked out seeded players to move into the semifinals at the Gadre Marine ITF Junior Under-18 tennis at Deccan Gymkhana courts here on Thursday.

Shrivalli recorded the biggest upset of the day taking out top seeded Shivani Amineni in an all-Indian clash winning 6-0, 7-6 (7-1). 

Fifth seeded Thai girl Pimrada Jattavapornvanit shocked third seeded Briton Matilda Mutavdzic 6-4, 6-4, while sixth seeded Pune player, Salsa Aher, outplayed No 4 seed Koharu Niimi of Japan 6-4, 6-4.

In the boys section, Japan’s seventh seeded Ryuhei Azuma defeated the third seeded Sacchitt Sharrma, who won in Delhi last week. The Japanese won 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 to record the only upset in the boys section.

Top seed Siddhant Banthia and second seeded Mann Shah and Thailand’s Kasidit Samrej were the other players to make it to the semis.

Doubles (Semifinals): 1-Dev Javia and Mann Shah bt 4-Romain Faucon and Piotr Pawlak 7-5, 6-4; 2-Kasidit Samrej and Sacchitt Sharrma bt 3-Siddhant Banthia and Madhwin Kamath 6-4, 6-3.

Girls: Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (Ind) bt 1-Shivani Amineni (Ind) 6-0, 7-6 (7-1); 5-Pimrada Jattavapornvanit (Tha) bt 3-Matilda Mutavdzic (Gbr) 6-4, 6-4; 6-Salsa Aher(Ind) bt 4-Koharu Niimi (Jpn) 6-4, 6-4; Erika Matsuda (Jpn) bt Sandeepti Singh Rao (Ind) 6-3, 6-2.

Doubles (Semifinals): 3-Li, Yu-Yun and Koharu Niimi bt 1-Matilda Mutavdzic and Erin Richardson 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) (11-9); 4-Salsa Aher and Erika Matsuda bt Mei Hasegawa and Malikaa Marathe 6-3, 7-5.
