Seventh title for PYC ‘A’

Pune: PYC Gymkhana ‘A’ asserted their supremacy as a tennis powerhouse by winning the Elite Division title in the Shashi Vaidya Memorial Inter-club Tennis Championship for the seventh consecutive year at the PYC Gymkhana tennis court.

The hosts outplayed Deccan Gymkhana ‘A’ 23-11.

The Nandan Bal and Jaideep Date pair from Deccan Gymkhana scraped past the PYC pair of Kedar Shah and Abhay Jamenis 6-5 (7-1) to give their team the only win of the day.

In the 90+ event, the PYC pair of Jayant Kadhe and Rituparna Kulkarni outrallied Ajay Kamat and Madan Gokhale 6-2.

Then, Abhishek Tamhane and Ketan Dhumal scored an identical win over Sangram Chaphekar and Hrushikesh Pataskar to give PYC a 17-10 lead.
The pair of Prashant Sutar and Kedar Shah sealed the matter for the winners by ousting Mandar Wakankar and Vikrant Sane 6-2 to complete a big win.

The winners got Rs 40,000 and Shashi Vaidya Memorial trophy while the runners-up got Rs 20,000.
