Seven Indians qualify for main draw

In a minor upset, sixth seeded Nishant Dabas, the twin brother of Sushant upset fourth seeded Sandeep VM 6-4, 6-2 to qualify for the main draw.

PUNE: As many as seven Indian boys and girls qualified for the main draw of the second edition of the HCL Asian B1 Junior Tennis Championship being played at the Deccan Gymkhana tennis courts.

In the final qualifying round, seventh seeded Sushant Dabas upset top seeded Fardeen Qamar 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 while second seeded Krish Patel outplayed Kushan Shah 6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile Subash Paramasivam served out third seed Denim Yadav 6-3, 6-4.

In the girls section, sixth seeded Archita Mahalwal upset third seeded Malvika Shukla 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 to make it to the main draw. Priyanshi Bhandari and state girl Prerna Vichare were the other Indians to qualify for the main draw. Top seeded Sevil Yuldashiva of Uzbekistan got past a fighting Bhakti Shah winning 6-4, 6-4 to become the lone foreign qualifier.

Boys: 7-Sushant Dabas bt 1-Fardeen Qamar 7-6 (7-5), 6-3;  2-Krish Patel bt 5-Kushan Shah 6-3, 6-3; Subash Paramasivam bt 3-Denim Yadav 6-3, 6-4; 6-Nishant Dabas bt 4-Sandeep VM 6-4, 6-2.  

Girls: 1-Sevil Yuldashiva bt 5-Bhakti Shah 6-4, 6-4; 7-Priyanshi Bhandari bt Vidhi Jani 6-1, 6-3; 6-Archita Mahalwal bt 3-Malvika Shukla 6-4, 2-6, 6-0; 4-Prerna Vichare bt 8-Yashaswini Panwar 6-2, 6-2.
