Pune: Selection trials for Pune Kabaddi League competition to form various men’s and women’s teams will be held on July 2 at the Boxing Hall of the Balewadi Sports Complex.
The Pune District Kabaddi Association (PDKA) is organising the Pune Kabaddi League on July 21 to 23 at the Balewadi Sports Complex to celebrate birthday of Ajit Pawar, the President of the Maharashtra Olympic Association (MOA) and of the PDKA.
The league is being organised with the help of Nationalist Congress Party’s Baner-Balewadi-Pashan ward and Satej Sangh. “We always help kabaddi players and this is our way to do it. We are organising the event for both men and women on mat,” informed Baburao Chandere, Chief Secretary of PDKA.
The selection committee comprises Atmaram Kadam, Dattatraya Kalamkar, Kiran Chandere, while Arjuna Awardee Shantaram Jadhav, Mahesh Landge, Arjuna Awardee Shakuntala Khatavkar, Sumati Pujari and Kishori Shinde will oversee.
“Those missing the trials will not get the chance to play in the league,” said Chandere.
There will be four teams competing, which have been named Baladhyay Baramati, Laybhari Pimpri-Chinchwad, Zunzhar Khed and Vegwan Pune.
“We will have live telecast of the league on Maharashtra 1 channel,” said Chandere.
- The Pune Kabaddi League, though limited to Pune District, has helped giving exposure to the up and coming players who do not get chance to play in bigger events.
- To have the matches go live on channel is also an added impetus for young players to perform in the league.
