Sanyogita returns with silver medal

Pune: Sanyogita Ghorpade finished runners up in the women’s doubles at the Mauritius International 2017 at the National Badminton Centre, Rose Hill here in Mauritius.

The loss for the 24-year-old Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy - NKBA trainee continued to fall short of the title ever since she has made a comeback after injury in February this year. 

The tournament was her first international since her return after domestically figuring in four tournaments.

In the final, unseeded Sanyogita partnering with Prajakta Sawant went down fighting to top-seeded German duo Lisa Kaminski and Hannah Pohl 21-18, 22-20 after a 40 minute battle.

Earlier in the semifinals, the Indian duo put out No. 2 seeds Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail and Nafha Nasrulla of Maldives 21-1, 21-5 in a one-sided 17 minute battle.

Her loss was the fourth in a final after setbacks in the Senior Nationals at Patna, Bihar along with Shika Gautam.

Results:
Final: lost to 1-Lisa Kaminski and Hannah Pohl (Ger) 21-18, 22-20.
Semifinal: bt 2-Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail and Nafha Nasrulla (Mdv) 21-1, 21-5.
Quarterfinal: bt Jemimah Leug For Sang and Shania Leung (Mri) 21-4, 21-10.
Round 1: bt Neela Najeeb and Moosa Aminath Shahurunaz (Mdv) 21-6, 21-7.
