Sanket corners Amol to walk home with the trophy

Pune: Sanket Mutha of hosts Corner Pocket exacted sweet revenge from Amol Abadgiri to claim the inaugural Corner Pocket Cup Open Championship 2017 at their home tables, here on Sunday.

In a well fought final, Sanket, who had lost to Amol earlier, did well to keep ahead all through the match and ended up a 4-0 victory. The 25-five year old went one-up with a 55-14 verdict and went on to win the next two 36-26, 37-14. Down 0-3, BMCC lad Amol did well to dig into his reserves but fell short and lost 44-30.

The result for 21 year old Amol a former State Junior No. 2 player, was a big blow as he lost just one match in the entire tournament.

The four frame final lasted around 90 minutes.

Sanket pocketed Rs. 15,000 for his effort, while Amol took home Rs. 10000. Both semifinalists - Altamash Saifee and Abhishek Bora received Rs. 7000 respectively.

Abhishek Bora added an additional Rs. 5000 to his kitty for recording the ‘Highest Break’ in the tournament. Abhishek Bora’s best was a 41-point break.
