Pune: Islampur Vyayam Mandal, Sangli, showed their mettle and trounced Om Kabaddi Sangh, Pune 30-22 to lift the Western India title in the Red Bull Tashan Kabaddi Tournament at Phoenix Market City on Sunday evening.
Team from Sangli will now get an opportunity to train with Puneri Paltan. The Sangli team played impressive kabaddi right from the start and allowed no easy points to Pune.
Om Kabaddi Sangh made errors at crucial moments in the game and lost the contest 22-30. Saurabh Kulkarni from Islampur Vyayam Mandal, Sangli was named best defender of the tournament while Nikhil Sandba of Om Kabaddi Sangh, Pune got best raider award.
Earlier, Pune team had defeated Government Higher Secondary, Goa, 39-19 to make it to the final. The tournament was organised in association with Pro Kabaddi League franchise Puneri Paltan.
Tournaments like Red Bull Tashan Kabaddi helps to find talent from schools and colleges. PKL is doing its best to reach more and more people but where PKL cannot reach, such tournaments can play major role to bring out talent from grass root level.
