Solapur: Wildcard Rutuja Bhosale kept up her splendid form to upset top seeded and World No 86 Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia to enter semifinals of the $25K Oasis Solapur Open ITF women’s tennis at MSLTA School of Tennis here on Thursday.
In a well-contested quarterfinal Rutuja justified the wildcard by registering her career’s one of the biggest wins knocking out top seed 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in an hour 58 minutes and booked a last four spot against fourth seeded Jia Jing Lu of China .
In a close match Lu was lucky to came back from loss of first set and lead 6-4, 2-0 when her opponent Denis Khazaniuk of Israel conceded her match due to back injury.
Unseeded Marina Melnikova Of continued her good run making the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-2 win over seventh seeded Kai-Lin Zhang to set up a last four clash with fifth seeded Quirine Lemoine of the Netherlands, who got the better of Poland’s Katarzyna Piter 7-5, 6-3.
