Rutuja scores upset win to enter quarterfinal at Endurance Aurangabad Open Women's ITF Championships

Aurangabad: Wildcard Rutuja Bhosale recorded the only upset of the day knocking out former national champion and sixth seeded Sai Samhitha Chamarthi  6-2,4-6,6-3 to enter the quarterfinals of the singles at the $15000 Endurance Aurangabad Open Womens ITF Championships organised by the EMMTC under the auspices of the ITF, AITA and the MSLTA played at the EMMTC tennis courts, Divisional Sports Complex Garkheda.

Aurangabad: Wildcard Rutuja Bhosale recorded the only upset of the day knocking out former national champion and sixth seeded Sai Samhitha Chamarthi  6-2,4-6,6-3 to enter the quarterfinals of the singles at the $15000 Endurance Aurangabad Open Womens ITF Championships organised by the EMMTC under the auspices of the ITF, AITA and the MSLTA played at the EMMTC tennis courts, Divisional Sports Complex Garkheda.

In good day for Indian women players four teenagers Ramya Natrajan, Mahek Jain, Yubarani Banerjee, Pranjala Yadlapalli along with Shweta Rana and Nidhi Chilumula made it to the last eight stage. Second seeded Xiaoxi Zhao of China remained the lone foreign entrant in the last eight.

In the pre-quarterfinals left handed Ramya Natarajan breezed past Sindhu Janagam  6-0,6-2, Shweta Rana led 5-0 before eighth seeded  Australian Alexandra Walters retired due to exhaustion, Yubarani Banerjee continued where she left off accounting for another youngster  Vasavi Ganeshan 6-3,6-3

Seventh seeded Pranjala Yadlapalli a semifinalist here last year got past a young German Vivien Klein 6-0,6-3, while another teen Mahak Jain played matured tennis to rally past Great Britain's Manisha Foster  7-5,6-4 in a well contested match. Fifth seeded Nidhi Chilumula gave a lesson in tennis to junior player Sai Dedeepya Yeddula winning  6-0,6-1

Second seeded Xiaoxi Zhao of China stopped wildcard Snehal Mane  6-4,6-1 to remain the lone foreign entrant in the last eight

In the best match of the day Maharashtra player and wildcard entrant    Rutuja Bhosale who recently completed her graduation in the US, displayed some strong tennis to register a 6-2,4-6,6-3 win over sixth seeded Sai Samhitha Chamarthi in a 2 hour 4 minute match. In the first set Bhosale displayed good all round game to break Chamarthi in the 3rd and the 5th games to clinch the set 6-2. In the second set Bhosale made unforced errors in the 9th game going for a win only to be broken  by Chamarthi, a former women's national champion who then held on to take the second set.

In the decider Bhosale recovered from the lapse of concentration to play steadily and decisively break Chamarthi in the 9th game to win the set 6-3 and make it to the quarterfinals and ensure herself a ITF ranking having got points in the two earlier events in Pune and Navi Mumbai.
