Railway Police push past FCI; PSC girls defeats SNBP 10-3

Pune: Railway Police remained unbeaten downing Food Corporation of India (FCI) 8-3 in the inaugural Olympic Day 5-A-Side Hockey Championship at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri here on Tuesday.

Railway Police and FCi battled out a stiff first quarter (Q1) to share honours 1-1. Prithviraj Salunke (2nd) put cops up 1-0 and Akash Pawar (8th) helped FCI level terms 1-1.

Pune: Railway Police remained unbeaten downing Food Corporation of India (FCI) 8-3 in the inaugural Olympic Day 5-A-Side Hockey Championship at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri here on Tuesday.

Railway Police and FCi battled out a stiff first quarter (Q1) to share honours 1-1. Prithviraj Salunke (2nd) put cops up 1-0 and Akash Pawar (8th) helped FCI level terms 1-1.

The second quarter had Railway Police run through proceedings and lead 4-2. In the final quarter Q3 they ran riot and finished with an 8-3 score-line. The victory was architected by Prithviraj Salunke (4 goals), Amol Bhosale (3) and Omkar Musale (1).

Earlier, in the women’s section, Priyadarshini Sports Centre hammered a hapless SNBP Academy 10-3 in a great comeback. The first quarter was a rush from both sides with Priyadarshini SC ending up 2-3 in arrears.
SNBP, thereafter, choked allowing Priyadarshini to pump in eight goals in the two quarters spanning 20 minutes.  The winners were led by a 4-goal strike by Pratiksha Satav (7th, 9th, 21st, 24th), ,  Shivani Bawdekar (2 goals), Jasmine Shaikh, Precy S, Shivani Bist, Pragati Jeage (1 goal each ).

In a late Monday encounter, Aspat Academy won a 21-goal encounter - the highest match-score of the tournament so far when they accounted for Chikalwadi Young Boys 13-8. The winners had Swapnil Dhere (6 goals) lead the way in this Pool-D encounter.
