Pune: Anuj Uppal, Anand Raghuwanshi, Yogesh Sharma, Vignesh Sanghavi and Amit Parashar scored wins over their respective opponents and entered the quarterfinal round of the inaugural Sterlite Tech Cup India Open Snooker Championship being played at The Q Club Tables, Viman Nagar on Saturday.
In a tough match, Amit Parashar of host’s Q Club upset national player Hasan Badami 3-2. In the 91 minute tussle, Amit started off well by winning the first frame by 52-39. Hasan made a strong comeback by winning 62-38, 63-10 and took a lead of 2-1.
In the fourth frame, Amit potted well to win the frame by 61-40 and levelled the frame 2-2. In the deciding frame, both the players fought for each point. Amit potted the pink ball and won the frame by a margin of 8 points as the score read 54-46 thus registering the biggest upset of the tournament.
Vignesh Sanghavi of Poona Club scored a hard fought win over Neeraj Visava of Mumbai 58-35, 56-20, 16-51, 45-52, 58-31 and secured a berth in the top eight.
Anuj Uppal of Delhi scored an easy win over Shahabaz Khan by 87-61, 72-21, 70-12. Local player, Anand Raghuwanshi of Cue Masters outplayed Abhishek Bora 57-12, 50-07, 51-38. Anand also scored a break of 52 points in the first frame. Yogesh Sharma also scored a one sided win over Siddhesh Mule by 77-28, 68-32, 69-36.
