 Purandar pips Khed to enter final

Pune: In a nail biting semi-final, Chhava Purandar got the better of Zunzhar Khed 29-27 to enter the final of Pune League Kabaddi at Balewadi Sports Complex, Boxing Hall, on Saturday. 

An ‘all out’ forced on Khed after halftime did the trick for Purandar, as they managed to steal a 2-point win.

In-form Vivek Dhule, who collected 13 points, and Rohan Sawant – 4 points did most of the damage for the the opponent. They were equally supported by Nikhil Bhasmare and Rashid Shaikh, who grabbed 4 and 3 points respectively.

The match began on a steady note with both the teams collecting couple of points in five minutes to make it 4-all.

Players from both the teams were leaving no stone unturned and came out with brilliant performances. 

Vivek Dhule from Purandar and Shubham Kumbahr from Khed statrted the proceedings from both the ends. Teams showed cautious approach and kept on playing a waiting game. At the end of 10 minutes, score was tied at 7-all.

In next couple of minutes, Shubham raised the tempo of the Purnadar team, fetching two successful raids but Khed again equalised in the next minute. At the half time, score was 14-all.

After resumption, Purnadar got an opportunity to force an ‘all out’ on Khed and it changed the dimension of the game as Purandar took a 7-point lead with the score reading 21-14 in their favour.

Khed gave their best effort as Shubham and Ajinkya Sapkal kept their opponents on toes. In the dying minutes, Ajinkya produced a brilliant raid to decrease the deficit to two points with the score reading  24-27. But Vivek made sure in his raid that Purnadar stayed ahead with his two-point raid.

Purandar will meet Laybhari Pimpri-Chinchwad  (Laybhari PCMC) in the final on Sunday. Laybahri PCMC defeated Baladhyay Baramati 34-33. Laybhari PCMC was leading with two points at the half time with the score reading 20-18 in their favour.
