Pune look to break No 3 position jinx in PKL-5

Pune: Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 5 is just 17 days away and Puneri Paltan is aiming nothing less but a place in the final.

‘Mr Dependable’ - Deepak Hooda is the leader of the team and owners has given him a new set of talented and experienced players along with a coach BC Ramesh to set a stage on fire for Season-5 which starts on July 28.

The team has started its preparatory camp at the Symbiosis International University at Lavale Campus where players prime focus is on fitness before planning for the actual tournament.

For Season-5, Paltan has brought experienced players like Sandeep Narwal— all-rounder, Rajesh Mondal —raider, Dharamaraj Cheralathan—defender right and left corner.

Rajesh and Dharamaraj were the part of the Patna Pirates who won the Season 4 title defeating Jaipur Pink Panthers.

The team is also boosted with the players like Girish Ernak - defender left corner, Rohit Choudhary - raider and Umesh Matre - raider who all can come handy whenever required.

Coach BC Ramesh has got the company of Ashok Shinde who has coached Paltan in Season 3 and Season 4 and now will be seen as a mentor in the upcoming season. The duo is taking care of each and every player’s fitness as the season will continue for 13 weeks.
PKL: Roller coaster ride for Pune till now

Pro Kabaddi League started as a nightmare for Puneri Paltan in 2014, wooden spoon in Season 1 and Season 2 raised many eyebrows over teams think-tank and owners were only left with the options of drastic changes in the team.

The addition of new captain - Manjeet Chhillar and wholesale changes in a team did the trick for Pune and team ended their campaign with the third position finish in Season-3.

The team showed tremendous improvement under Manjeet and players like Deepak Hooda, Ajay Thakur, Surjeet and Jasmer Singh Gulia brought their act together which helped the team to take a giant leap from past two seasons.

In the Season-4 core team remained same but owners picked up raiders Nitin Tomar and Sonu Narwal to increase raiding options. The team performed brilliantly even after Manjeet missing out most of the action due to injury.

Deepak and Nitin made sure that team finishes in top three and they ousted Telugu Titans to earn the third place.
