Pune emerges overall champions

Pune: Hosts Pune finished with an impressive performance for the 13th consecutive time in the Maharashtra State Senior Athletics Competition which concluded at the Balewadi Sports Complex recently.

Pune bagged 225 points to emerge the overall champions of the event.  In the men’s category, a group of 76 athletes earned 118 points under the leadership of captain Chandrakant Manavdakar. The performance included 12 golds, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals which earned them the Pune Marathon Team Championship trophy. Meanwhile Thane who ended runners-up finished with 38 points.

In the women’s category, the athletes won eight gold, four silver and five bronze medals thus collecting 107 points in their kitty.
Satara lad Aniruddha Gujar and Thane girl Diadra Udliya walked home with the best athlete awards.
