Puneri Paltan defeat mighty neighbours U Mumba 33-21 convincingly; In the first match, Telugu Titans ousted debutants Tamil Thalavias 32-27

Hyderabad: Super solid defence and two ‘all out’ forced on U Mumba by Puneri Paltan made sure that Pune come out as winners in the Maharashtra derby here on Friday night.

The Pune outfit kept control over the match in all 40 minutes and ousted Mumbai with the score reading 33-21 on Day 1 of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 5 at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.

Sandeep Nawal, More GB and Deepak Hooda were the architects of Puneri Paltan’s victory.

Along with the trio, defence quadrant of Dharamraj Cheralathan, Rajesh Mondal did not allow U Mumba raiders to score easily.

“We had a plan for Anup, I was sure if we target Anup then their whole team will crumble under pressure and same happened today,” said Sandeep Narwal.

For U Mumba, along with captain Anup, other players Shabeer Bapu, Kashiling Adke failed to performed to their full potential.

Pune managed to ‘all out’ U Mumba twice whereas Mumbai outfit could not force an ‘all out’ on their opponent even once.

Telugu Titans win
Earlier the home team rode high on the performance of Rahul Chaudhari and Vishal Bhardwaj to defeat Tamil Thalavias 32-27 in the first enconter of the day.

Rahul as usual with his raids did the damage but special credits must go to Vishal who is new addition to the Titans team who collected 6 tackle points. The Titans came out with an all round performance and all the players managed to collect points for their team.

The defence which was not a strong point of the Titans in the previous seasons gave a strong performance in the middle. Vishal Bhardwaj, Ankit Malik and Farahad Milagharadan were impressive to keep Titans ahead in the match at every stage.

For Thalavias, Ajay Thahur and K Prapanjan were the only two players who looked in good touch while rest struggled with the speed of the game.

Season campaigner Rakesh Kumar who came in Telugu Titans colours for Season 5 scored the first point with his raid of Pro Kabaddi League Season 5 after couple of empty raids from both the ends. Rakesh has represented Patna Pirates and U Mumba in previous seasons.

For the first 5 minutes the game moved at a snail’s pace as players were not rushing to collect points.

Ajay Thakur got his act together and gave first point to Tamil Thalavias. After that, the game from both the ends took pace and points started to come frequently.

Debutants Thalavias, defenders came into play and even managed to tackle Rahul Chaudhari on a few occasions. Rahul’s absence did not make much impact on the mat as Nilesh Salunke and Rakesh were able to keep Thalavias in check.

Lack of experience was sensed the way Thalavias were building their game. Once Ajay was out of the mat, the team was not able to keep control and gave away points in bulk. Still the first super tackle of Season 5 came from the side of the  Thalavias.

The score was 10-8 at the end of 17 minutes when Telugu Titans forced ‘all out’ on Thalalvias to take a four points lead. In the last two minutes before half time, Nilesh Salunke managed two successful raids to go into the with half time with the score of 18-11 in their favour.

Tomorrow Jaipur Pink Panthers will take on Dabanng Delhi in the first match while Telugu Titans will play against Patna Pirates in the second match.

Sachin steals the show

After a stunning dance performance, real energy was infused on the mat by the presence of Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin is the co-owner of Tamil Thalaivas which is also owned by N Prasad.

“We all have played kabaddi, I too used to play with my friends when I was In School. I attended Pro Kabaddi League first time in Mumbai just as spectator but now I am a team owner. Life is so unpredictable,” Tendulkar said.
