Pune’s Salunkhe clinches gold medal on rainy day

Salunkhe finished the race in 1 hour, 40 minutes and 12 seconds. Standing second was Anand who finished the race in 1 hour, 41 minutes and 22 seconds followed by Omkar Kadam who stood third.

Pune: Pune’s Omkar Salunkhe finished with an impressive performance clinching a gold medal in the 20 kilometre walk of the Maharashtra State Track and Field Championship which concluded at the Balewadi warm-up ground here on Sunday.

Salunkhe finished the race in 1 hour, 40 minutes and 12 seconds. Standing second was Anand who finished the race in 1 hour, 41 minutes and 22 seconds followed by Omkar Kadam who stood third.

In the 200 metre race, Pune’s Pratik Ninave finished on top, thus clinching the gold finishing the race in 22.1 seconds while Swapnil Mankar from Mumbai city stood second clocking 22.3 seconds followed by Satara’s Kiran Doiphode who clocked 22.5 seconds.

In the 1500 metre event, Chandrakant Manwatkar from Pune proved to be the fastest clocking 4:03.2 seconds. Nashik’s Yogesh Gonal and Akola’s Amol Sanghpal stood on second and third positions with timings of 4:03.7 seconds and 4:06.4 seconds respectively.

The 110 metre hurdles battle witnessed two Pune athletes clinching the gold and silver medals. Paras Patil stood first clocking 14.7 seconds while Pranit Ghate stood second finishing in 15.2 seconds.

In the women’s category, the triple jump event witnessed Pune domination on the top three places. Pournima Marane (10.54m), Amruta Phatak (10.51m) and Madhurika Ubhe (10.05m) clinched the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
