Poona Club Golf Course wins Quadrangular Cup

Poona Club Golf Course tallied a massive 975 points over four legs, winning each leg with precision-like accuracy to clinch the 2019 Quadrangular Cup title contested between the four major golf clubs of the city. The title for Poona Club Golf Course came after a long wait of more than a decade-and-a-half.

Pune: Poona Club Golf Course tallied a massive 975 points over four legs, winning each leg with precision-like accuracy to clinch the 2019 Quadrangular Cup title contested between the four major golf clubs of the city. The title for Poona Club Golf Course came after a long wait of more than a decade-and-a-half.

Played in double Peoria Stableford format, the tournament is played over a period of two months at each of the participating clubs--Southern Star Golf Course (SSGC), Poona Club Golf Course, College of Military Engineering Golf Course and National Defence Academy Golf Course. 

This year’s tournament began on January 6 at the NDA course before it moved to Poona Club Golf Course on January 20, then at CME on February 17 before the final leg at SSGC on March 3.

At the final leg saw some very intense golf before Poona Club Golf Course emerged victorious with 241 points that made up 975 points aggregate. The best seven participant scores of each team were used towards the result of every leg 

The tournament, which was established in 1979 by SSGC, last year decided to introduce the concept of a lady golfer and this year it decided to further the cause by including a junior golfer up to 15 years of age as mandatory participants in each team. The Quadrangular Cup 2018-19 saw the maximum number of participants at 12 per club in every leg which was the highest ever in the 40 year history of the tournament.
