Pune: Four goals in the first 36 minutes helped Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) to oust Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) 4-3 in a Pool C match in the Senior Men National Championship, A Division tournament being played at Lucknow on Monday.
PSPB controlled the proceedings right from the start and netted four quick goals to take a 4-0 lead. Gurjinder Singh scored a brace (14th and 26th) while other two goals were scored by Affan Yousuf (5th) and Talwinder Singh (36th).
SSCB rallied back strongly, scoring three goals in last two quarters with Lovedeep Singh finding the net in 38th minute while Anand Lakra and Sanjib Dungdung scored in 51st and 60th minute respectively.
In the opening match of the day, Association of Indian Universities defeated Central Reserve Police Force 5-2 in Pool D to occupy the first spot with a tally of seven points from four matches.
Association of Indian Universities started the match with two quick goals in the first 25 minutes, while Central Reserve Police Force tried to make a comeback, as they scored through Md. Wasiullah Khan in the 33rd minute.
But Association of Indian Universities scored two more goals in the 44th and 49th minute to take a 4-1 lead. Central Reserve Police Force scored again in the 59th minute through Sudhir Horo but it wasn’t enough for them as their opposition scored a fifth goal to secure all the three points.
Goals for Association of Indian Universities were scored by Amanpreet Singh (10th, 25th), Abhay Kumar (44th), Taleb Shah (49th) and Harmanpreet Singh (60th) respectively.
