PUNE: PCMC XI and Krida Prabodhini made it to the Junior Division final of Surendra Anand Hockey Memorial Maharashtra League 2016 after registering contrasting wins over their opponents at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri on Tuesday.
In the first semifinal of the day, PCMC XI downed Friends Union 1-0 after finding the boards late into the second half. Both teams spared no inch and it was down to the last three minutes when Shabeer Shaikh (57th) successfully converted a penalty-corner.
Later, in a one-sided second Krida Prabodhini, coached by Olympian Ajit Lakra, did well to show their class and down Pune Magicians 7-0. The win was powered by a three-goal effort by Harish Shindgi.
Krida Prabodhini was no match to the opponents and had three players - skipper Pratap Shinde, Harish and Ajinkya Jadhav sound the boards and settle the issue.
Six minutes into the game Pratap Shinde opened the scoring by converting a penalty stroke. Pratap (11th) added another to make it 2-0, before Harish (14th) made it 3-0 and Ajinkya (21st) took the game out of Pune Magicians hands. At half time Krida Prabodhini led 4-0.
On resumption, Ajinkya (39th) and Harish (42nd) pushed the scoreline to half a dozen (6-0), before Harish netted his third a minute short of the hour of play.
