Getting ‘all out’ four times squashes Gujarat Fortunegiants’ dream run on debut as they go down 55-38 against Patna Pirates.

Chennai: Patna Pirates came out with yet another clinical performance to puzzle opponents Gujarat Fortunegiants 55-38 to take home the Pro Kabaddi League Season 5 title at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
Starting on a slow note, Patna rallied back with all their potential and crushed Gujarat’s every plan to take home the third title with an easy victory.

Pardeep Narwal, the captain of Patna Pirates came out with a super performance to score 19 points.

Starting the match with opening raids, raiders from both the teams did not waste time and started collecting points with brisk space.

Monu first fetched two point raid for Patna to start proceedings while Rakesh Narwal touched three Gujarat players to produce the first ‘Super raid’ of the all important match.

For the few next minutes, Gujarat dominated the match as they forced an ‘All out’ over Patna in the 6th minute.

With Gujarat leading 9-3, Patna raiders slowed down a bit and played on the third raid.  Gujarat kept losing touch points but managed to collect a few bonus points.

On the other side, Monu and Pardeep came to party and forced ‘all out’ over Gujarat at the end of the16th minute to make it 15-all.

In the last four minutes before half time, Gujarat took a cautious approach while Patna kept on attacking as the game went into half-time with Patna ahead with the score of 21-18.

In the second half, Patna kept the momentum in their control as Monu and Pardeep came good in every raid. Gujarat suffered the second ‘All out’ of the match in the 27th minute.

From there onwards, it was only one team which surged ahead in the match and Patna did not give any chance to Gujarat to fight back. There were a few moments where Gujarat had a slight chance but Pardeep along with his defenders ensured that they went home with the trophy.

Interesting PKL Facts:
 At 20, Pardeep Narwal became the youngest captain to claim the PKL title. Navneet Gautam of Jaipur Pink Panthers was 31 years old when he won the Season 1 title for Jaipur Pink Panthers in 2014.
 Wie Yang of Taipei was the part of Jaipur Pink Panthers who won the title in Season 1.
 The season 2, U Mumba captain Anup Kumar was 32 when his team won the title in 2015. U Mumba was the only team till now who had featured in three finals of PKL now Patna equalled the record by reaching the 2017 final.
 Manpreet Singh and Dharmaraj Cheralathan who won the consecutive titles for Patna Pirates in Season 3 and Season 4 were 38 and 41 years of age respectively.
