Pashan XI took charge to swell the scoreline and walk tall

Pune: Pashan XI and 5 Star eves romped into the semi-finals with easy wins over their respective opponents in the inaugural Olympic Day 5-A-Side Hockey Championship (Men and Women) at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Poligras Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri here on Thursday.

In Pool A, Pashan XI downed Khadki Education Society (KES) 8-3, while 5 Star posted a 5-3 win over Priyadarshini Sports Centre (PSC) in a Pool-B encounter. The wins ensured both sides finish with 10 points each and grab second position in their respective groups behind Krida Prabodhini and Pune XI respectively.

Pashan XI were powered by a 4-goal effort by Rudrani Sakhare. The match saw both teams share six goals in the first quarter (Q1) with Prajakta Mane and Priyanka (2 goals) scoring to help KES keep pace.

However, thereafter Pashan XI took charge to swell the scoreline and walk tall.

Later, Durga Shinde with 3-goals shone in 5 Star 6-3 win over PSC.  The winners won Q1 honours with goals from Durga. Shivangi Bhist helped PSC win Q2 honours 2-1. The third quarter Q3 belonged to 5 Star who won 3-1.

In the semi-finals Krida Prabodhini (Pool A winner) takes on 5 Star and later Pune XI (Pool B winner) will play Pashan XI on Friday.

Pool-A: Pashan XI 8 (Rucha Gaikwad 1st, 11th, Rudrani Sakhare 3rd, 12th, 13th, 15th; Pratima Singh 5th, 29th) bt Khadki Education Society 5 (Prajakta Mane 2nd, 24th; Priyanka W 7th, 8th, 19th). 
Pool-B: 5 Star 6 (Durga Shinde 5th, 9th, 27th; Samarudhi Zujam 18th, Aarti Shinde 22nd, Diksha Avghade 26th) bt Priyadarshini Sports Centre 3 (Shivangi Bist 12th, 14th; Shivani Bawdekar 28th).
