Pune: Parth Joshi fired a brace for SPM English Medium School as they beat Sindhu Vidya Bhavan (SVB) High School, Aundh, 3-0 in the first round match of the Under-17 fixture of the Inter-School Football Tournament being played at SSPMS ground on Monday.
Parth opened the scoring for SPM English Medium School in the 16th minute and two minutes later Sarvesh Despande struck the second before Parth came up with his second, in the 22nd minute of the match.
The Under-17 match between New India School, Kothrud and St Joseph High School, Khadki, was locked in a goalless endgame forcing tie-breaker to be applied.
Chandan Suryavanshi and Sahil Borade scored for New India, while Atharva Kulkarni and Harshvardhan Kharade missed. For St Joseph, Saurabh Dedhe, Pranav Satkar, Shramik Gaikwad and Mohit Randive all missed the scoring chances.
There was yet another close encounter during the day when RB Academy defeated New English School Ramanbaug 5-4 in the tie-breaker, in the Under-14 age category.
Both the teams were tied 0-0 at the end of the regulation time forcing the tie-breaker. Anshay Misal, Parth Pore, Akram Shaikh, Siddharth Shirwale and Tejas Ghodke were brilliant with their spot kick and scored for RB Academy.
For New English School Ramanbaug, Pranjal Kokatnoor, Rushabh Ajabe, Sayunj Kulkarni and Sujal Shinde scored. It was Samarth Bhoine whose miss cost them the match.
