“We have learnt a lot from our seniors and their past experience has helped us to make our vehicle for the upcoming season,” said  Tejas Belgamwar -- captain and steering lead of Nemesis Racing in an exclusive interview to Sakal Times.

PUNE: Champions of BAJA SAE India 2018, Nemesis Racing have packed their bags for their upcoming mission as they are all set to take part in the BAJA SAE Maryland which will take place in Mechanicsville, MD USA from Thursday.

Team Nemesis Racing from College of Engineering, Pune -- COEP have been participating in United States BAJA since the year 2015.

“We have learnt a lot from our seniors and their past experience has helped us to make our vehicle for the upcoming season,” said  Tejas Belgamwar -- captain and steering lead of Nemesis Racing in an exclusive interview to Sakal Times.

In the year 2017, a team from COEP took part in BAJA SAE Illinois and BAJA SAE Kansas. Nemesis finished overall 9th and 11th respectively.

“It was the first time we came first in Acceleration event and Hill Climb event in Illinois last year. We had an idea that our vehicle has potential to stay ahead of all but somehow we were not able to leave the mark, so 2017 was a big learning curve and we have done many changes for the upcoming race.”

At Kansas in Pittsburg, Nemesis claimed the third position in Acceleration event and fifth place in Endurance race.

“Performance in both the events gave us the confidence that we can beat US teams in their own terrain,” added Tejas.

Team Nemesis has not only observed the technical style of US teams but they have also learnt about how should be the work ethics during the event.

“The spirit in which competition takes place in US BAJA is completely different. I can say it is very innocent and pure. Last time at Kansas event in Pittsburg we saw families coming and watching the endurance race like here in India we watch the cricket match.

In US BAJA big teams like ‘R8 team from Michigan are the big boon for the teams which are coming from other countries.

“R8 is a team which have supplies for themselves and a different team which is working for the teams like us who are coming from other locations so such things are not found in India generally.

Well-known for manufacturing best vehicles for BAJA events, Team Nemesis has left no stone unturned this time to emerge as champions.

“We have customised each and every part of the vehicle. Even the shock ups were dismantled this time. We have made sure that every part which will be used is tried and tested.

“We were the first team in India to introduce custom CVT in our vehicle. CVT is a component which is used in mopeds for automatic transmission of gears. The mechanism which we have used in our CVT will not be found anywhere and we are also trying to get a patent for it,” added Tejas.

Bajaj Auto is the title sponsor of Team Nemesis while Chicago Pneumatics and Cummins are associate sponsors.
