Narle sails into quarter-finals

Mrunmayi started on a dull note, going down in the first game 5-11. However, Mrunmayi rallied back strongly winning the next two games 11-8, 11-7 to take a 2-1 lead.

PUNE: Seventh seeded Swapnali Narle ensured a place in the quarter-finals of the Sharada District Ranking Table Tennis tournament by defeating Megha Kajale 12-10, 11-3, 11-6 at Sharada Sports Centre on Monday.

Eight seeded Mrunmayi Raikhelkar had to sweat hard before scoring a 3-2 victory over Mayuri Thombare.

Mrunmayi started on a dull note, going down in the first game 5-11. However, Mrunmayi rallied back strongly winning the next two games 11-8, 11-7 to take a 2-1 lead.

Mayuri raised the tempo of her game and took the fourth game 15-13 to force the game into a decider. In the final game, Mrunmayi kept her calm and won 11-6.  

In the next match, 13th seeded Radhikar Sakpal scored an upset victory defeating fourth seeded Aneeha D’souza 11-9, 11-9, 12-10 to enter the quarter-finals.
