Pune: Nanded and Thane began their campaigns on a bright note winning their respective matches on day one of the 45th Maharashtra State Inter District Championship for Sub Junior boys and girls, which commenced at the Badminton hall in
Balewadi Sports Complex here on Saturday.
Nanded got the better of Washim 35-12 while Thane defeated Yavatmal 34-8.
In the first match, Nanded started off briskly and went into half time with the scoreline reading 16-6. After changing ends, Nanded continued their attacking game to emerge victorious.
Parma Patni and Om Narwand scored six and nine points respectively for the Nanded team.
Then, Thane boys delivered an impressive show to down Yavatmal 34-18. Karthing Nair from Thane led from the front scoring 13 points.
It was sheer dominance from the Thane boys, who took a 23-10 lead at the end of half time. Fortunes did not change for Yavatmal, as they failed to score after changing ends.
Among girls, Nagpur blanked out Palghar 45-2, all thanks to quick scoring from Shomira Bidaye, Swati Wankhede and Dhara Phate, who scored 13, ten and nine points respectively.
