Pune: Namdhari XI defeated Association of Indian Universities (AOIU) 2-0 to secure their second victory of the Hockey India Senior Men National Championship, A Division tournament being played at Lucknow on Sunday.
Goals from Sher Singh (4th) and Navdeep Singh (24th) were enough for Namdhari XI to secure a victory and top the Pool D with six points.
Earlier, Comptroller & Auditor General of India played out a 1-1 draw with Chandigarh. The match saw Chandigarh taking a lead in the eighth minute through Balwinder Singh but Comptroller & Auditor General of India made a comeback in the third quarter as they found the equaliser through Md Naeemuddin in the 42nd minute to level the score.
In a Pool B match, Haryana saw themselves moving to the second spot as they defeated Hockey Gangpur-Odisha 3-2. Gangpur-Odisha took a 2-1 lead after 37 minutes, Haryana rallied back through some attacking intent and scored twice in the last 20 minutes to grab a 3-2 win.
Goals for Haryana were scored by Mandeep Antil (20th), Vishal Dahiya (40th) and Jonny Jasrotia (58th) while Roshan Minz (27th and 37th) scored a brace for Gangpur-Odisha.
In the last match of the day, Odisha defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 4-2. Madhya Pradesh scored first goal in the 13th minute through Shaun Glen Gladwin.
