Murkute School registers victory

Pune: Duneshwar Balaji Murkute School Under-14 boys beat Panditrao Agashe School 42-38 to advance further in the District Basketball tournament being played at Deccan Gymkhana courts here on Wednesday.
Murkute School were on top of their game from the beginning and rarely looked like losing the plot to run out victors with ease.

In the day’s other match, St Mary’s Junior College beat Army Public School to clinch the boy’s Under-19 title in style.Taking the game to APS from the word go, St Mary’s boys started on the offensive and went into the break with a 26-17 advantage. They however, hit their stride in the second half and ran out 44-27 victors.

Divyang Shukla (18 points) and Carl Cherry (19 points) were the stars for St Mary’s as they never gave a sniff to their opponents. For APS, Karandip Singh’s sole fight (14 points) was never going to be enough as they came up short by a big margin of 17 points.

Meanwhile Fergusson College defeated St Vincent’s Junior College 36-22 to take the third place in a one-sided contest. 

Ajay Mundhe (12 points) and Aman Shaikh (19 points) made most of the running for the Fergusson College boys, who had lost to eventual champions 
St Mary’s in the last four.
