Mehta, Shetty fastest; hand State a sprint double

Pune: Nish Mehta and Shruti Shetty gave host’s Maharashtra plenty to cheer emerging fastest athletes in the junior boys’ and girls’ sections in the 22nd CISCE National Athletics Meet-2018 at Balewadi, here on Saturday.

On the opening day, Nish blazed the track by clocking 11.28s in the junior section and pipped Vibhaskar Kumar (AP & Telangana; 11.34s) and R. Joy Alexis (TN; 11.38s).

On the opening day, Nish blazed the track by clocking 11.28s in the junior section and pipped Vibhaskar Kumar (AP & Telangana; 11.34s) and R. Joy Alexis (TN; 11.38s).

Incidentally, Nish’s effort was faster than the senior boys 100m sprint, wherein Hrishi Agasthya Veldandi representing Andhra Pradesh and Telangana clocked 11.40s. In the junior girls’ section, Srushti Shetty made it a double spint delight clocking 12.60s. Sharon Maria RJ (12.73s) and Neole Anna Cornelio (12.74s) finished second and third.
