Mayor’s wrestling starts from March 23

Pune: Mayor’s International Wrestling Championship will be held at MIT College ground Kothrud from March 23-25.

The event will witness national men and women wrestlers along with Under -14 and Under-17 categories in boys and girls section competing against each other for the title.

Wrestlers from Turkey will be the star attraction for the event who will take on Indian national wrestlers. 

Total prize money of Rs 60 lakh will be distributed among the winners.

Two mats will be set up in MIT college ground where matches will take place simultaneously. All the bouts will start from 4 pm and will continue till midnight. 

In men’s, the weight categories are 57-kg, 61-kg, 65-kg, 70-kg, 75-kg, 79-kg, 86-kg, 92-kg and 84 to 125 kg while in women, weight classes are 50-kg, 53-kg, 55-kg, 57-kg, 59-kg, 62-kg, 65-kg, 69-kg and 70 to 80-kg respectively.

Among Under-17 boys and girls, weight classes are classified into 42-kg, 46-kg, 50-kg, 54-kg, 58-kg, 63-kg and 70-kg while for Under-14 boys and girls weight categories are 28-kg, 30-kg, 32-kg, 35-kg, 38-kg, 42-kg and 46-kg. 

Organisers are expecting huge crowd turn out.

Wrestlers from Turkey
- The three-day wrestling championship will also witness wrestlers from Turkey battling against well-known Indian wrestlers. All these bouts will take place on mud.
- The wrestlers, who are coming from Turkey, are Ucar Dede, Gurkan Balci, Alpaslan Temizce Metin, Eyup Orman, Ahmet Selbest and Ismail Erkal.
- From India, Maharashtra Kesari Vijay Chaudhary, runner-up of Maharashtra Kesari Kiran Bhagat, national players Mauli Jamdade and Munna Zunzurke will take on the Turkish wrestlers.
