Manika and Sathiyan sparkle in Smashers’ victory over Warriors

India’s highest-ranked men’s player Gnanasekaran Sathiyan and 2018 Commonwealth Games double gold medallist Manika Batra came up with sterling performances to give Dabang Smashers en emphatic victory over Warriors in the CEAT Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Powered by Kellogg’s here on Saturday.

Pune: India’s highest-ranked men’s player Gnanasekaran Sathiyan and 2018 Commonwealth Games double gold medallist Manika Batra came up with sterling performances to give Dabang Smashers en emphatic victory over Warriors in the CEAT Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Powered by Kellogg’s here on Saturday.

Smashers picked up 14 points while conceding only 7  in their 6-1 verdict to jump to the top of the six-team table. Poster girl Manika began the charge against Achanta Sharath Kamal’s Warriors, scoring a tense 2-1 victory in the opening game then she defeated Sofia Polcanova. 

Ready for next match
The high-flying Dabang Smashers face a stiff test on Monday when they line up against defending champions Falcons TTC in their second match. Sathiyan believes the opening win and their past record against Falcons gives them an edge. 

“We won six out of our seven matches against a strong team and it has given us lot of confidence,” Sathiyan said.
