Malikaa and Mei made it look easy as they won 6-1, 6-3 in the shock win, but other seeded pairs stayed on an won their matches.

PUNE: Indo-Japanese pair of Malikaa Marathe and Mei Hasegawa scored an upset win when they defeated second seeded Indian duo of Shivani Amineni and Sharannya Gaware in the girl’s doubles first round match at the Gadre Marine ITF Junior tennis at Deccan Gymkhana courts here on Tuesday.

Malikaa and Mei made it look easy as they won 6-1, 6-3 in the shock win, but other seeded pairs stayed on an won their matches. Top seeded British pair of Matilda Mutavdzic and Erin Richardson defeated Indian duo of Vipasha Mehra and Bhakti Parwani 6-1, 6-2 and the fourth seeded Salsa Aher and and Erika Matsuda struggled to get past Jagmeet Kaur Grewal and Prerna Vichare 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

Jack, Mann in 2nd rd
Jack Pinnington Jones of Britain and second seeded Mann Shah of India scored easy wins to enter the second round in the boys singles. In the two singles matches played on Tuesday, Jones outplayed Kartik Saxena 6-2, 6-2 while second seeded Mann Shah, winner of last week’s event in New Delhi, demolished qualifier Prabjeet Singh Chandok 6-1, 6-1.
