Maharashtra registers win in Jr Nat’l hockey

Trailing by 2-0, Maharashtra women raised the tempo as Akshata Dhekale scored the first goal in the 14th minute. Maharashtra equalised with Vaishnavi Phalke finding the net in the 23rd minute.

PUNE: Maharashtra scored half dozen of goals to oust Uttarakhand 6-3 in the 8th Hockey India Junior Women National A Division Championship in Bhopal on Sunday. 

Uttarakhand started on a bright note scoring two early goals in the 7th and 8th minute. Manisha Chauhan scored first while Shruti Mamgain scored the second goal.

Trailing by 2-0, Maharashtra women raised the tempo as Akshata Dhekale scored the first goal in the 14th minute. Maharashtra equalised with Vaishnavi Phalke finding the net in the 23rd minute.

Nine minutes later, Vaishnavi netted the second goal. Later three more goals were added to the tally with Shradha Tiwari (42nd), Pooja Shendge (64th) scoring one each while Akshata completed a brace scoring the second goal in the 62nd minute. Manisha added one more in the 69th minute for Uttarakahnd.

RESULTS: Day 4: Chandigarh beat Mumbai 6-0; Madhya Pradesh drew with Gangpur-Odisha 3-3; Odisha beat Haryana 2-1; Karnataka beat Tamil Nadu 4-0; Jharkhand beat Uttar Pradesh 4-0; Coorg beat Bhopal 4-0; Sports Authority of India beat Punjab 5-2; Maharashtra beat Uttarakhand 6-3.
