Pune: Maharashtra opened their Hockey India 5-a-side Senior National Championship 2018 (Women) campaign with a thrilling 3-3 draw with Jharkhand in Bengaluru on Tuesday. After Preeti Dubey (3’) scored for Maharashtra, Jharkhand scored three back-to-back goals in the 11th, 12th and 13th minute through Simta Ming, Biranjini Ekka and Alka Dung Dung. Lalruatfeli scored in the 14th and 19th minutes to help Maharastra split the points.
Meanwhile Haryana defeated Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu with a big 15-2 win. International player Poonam Rani (2th, 9th, 14th, 20th) struck four goals for the winning team while her compatriots Gagandeep Kaur (4th, 9th, 11th), Sonika (8th, 12th, 14th), Amandeep Kaur (2th, 10th), Sarita (5th), Manpreet Kaur (6th) and Pooja (17th) scored. For Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu C Padmavathi (19th) and S Patricia (20th) scored.
The second match saw Punjab lose to Odisha 3-6. After Narinder Kaur (1st) gave a lead to Punjab, Odisha scored three goals with Elima Minz (2nd, 4th), Mariana Kujur (3rd) scoring. Narinder Kaur scored two more goals in the 7th and 9th minute for Hockey Punjab but poor defence saw her team concede goals Ajmina Kujur (9th), Mariana Kujur (11th) and Rashmita Minz (13th).
