Pune: Liyakat Shaikh form Solapur and Vignesh Sanghavi of Poona Club scored wins and qualified for the knockout stage at the inaugural Sterlite Tech Cup India Open Snooker Championship being played at The Q Club tables, Vimannagar here on Tuesday.
Liyakat Shaikh scored an impressive win against Satish Karad of Deccan Gymkhana to place himself in the knockout round from Group ‘Z’. Liyakat won the first frame by 72-39 and took a lead of 1-0. Satish won the second frame just by a margin of 7 points in a closely fought frame.
In the deciding frame, Liyakat played brilliantly and scored a 56 points break to win the frame by 82-09.
Vignesh Sanghavi of Poona Club registered an easy victory over Anshul Dandekar of Nagpur by 52-50, 66-06 thus entering the knockout stage.
Anand Raghuwanshi and Tahaa Khan scored easy wins starting on a winning note. Anand beat Vishal Panchal of New Club of 87-07, 67-55 while Tahaa beat Rahul Padhye of PYF 70-50, 88-75.
