Korea hold Indian Men’s Hockey Team to 1-1 draw

IPOH: Indian Men’s Hockey Team faltered in the final minute to draw the match 1-1 against Korea here at the 28th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2019 on Sunday.

In the rain-interrupted encounter, India’s young brigade lived up to the billing to ensure the team continued their momentum in the tournament after a 2-0 win against Japan in their first match on Saturday. But a defensive error in the 60th minute gave away a golden opportunity to Korea through a PC which was well-converted by Jonghyun Jang.

Earlier, India had made an attacking start to their campaign against Korea with midfielder Vivek Sagar Prasad creating space inside the striking circle within the first minute of the match but the Korean defenders held strong to avert an early goal.

They immediately launched a counter attack, entering India’s circle but Surender Kumar tackled well to clear the ball. The intensity with which both teams began play ensured that this was going to be an exciting game with the two teams pushing each other.

India made two more potential field goal scoring opportunities but the efforts did not convert. A quick-thinking Mandeep created India’s first PC on 10th minute with good tackle in the baseline. The opportunity, went amiss due to poor execution ending the first quarter in a stalemate.
