Kolhapur girl becomes basketball referee for Commonwealth games

The city girl Snehal Bendke has been selected as a referee for basketball events by Federation International Basketball (FIBA), for Commenwealth games-2018, to be held in Australia between April 5 and 15.

Kolhapur: The city girl Snehal Bendke has been selected as a referee for basketball events by Federation International Basketball (FIBA), for Commenwealth games-2018, to be held in Australia between April 5 and 15.

With this, Ms Bendke, has become the first Indian woman to officiate the games. She started her career as a referee through senior women championship competition and got a Honor of first Asian woman referee in FIBA Asian championship competition and FIBA Asia senior men cup.

She acted as a referee for eleven time for various international men's and women's competition in all age on Asian level.

Her journey with the sport began in 2001 in the city and cleared Maharashtra State qualified referee's examination in 2006 and got referring licence from FIBA in 2008. She would leave for Australia on April 1.
