Sriperumbudur: Karminder Singh proved his mettle with a splendid drive in trying conditions that gave him a much-deserved win in both the races on Sunday at the Ameo Cup at the MMSC track here. With his brilliant drive, Kamrinder extended his lead over title rivals and the Ameo Cup title remains just a formality now.

With reverse grid in play for top eight racers for the second race of the weekend, it was Rohit Goyal starting on pole joined by Donovan Vaz on the front row. Jeet Jhabak and Dhruv Mohite started behind them on the second row. Sandeep Kumar, Karminder Pal Singh and Sourav Bandyopadhyay started in sixth, seventh and eighth positions respectively behind Aditya Pawar who was fifth.

Karminder got a great start, gaining multiple grid positions on the very first corner of the race. Starting seventh on the grid, the Delhi driver made a couple of more positions moving past Sandeep Kumar and Dhruv Mohite.

“I got a great start, that enabled me to charge at the right time and call the shots, Changing weather conditions throughout the morning made it extremely difficult for the drivers, but I’m glad to see the race through. Tyres showed sign of heavy wear and tear, so I’m really glad with this result,” an elated Karminder said after the race.

He then managed to pace the race perfectly, snatching the top spot from Jeet Jabhakh, who could just about hold onto second place on the grid.

Dhruv grabs double podium
Dhruv Mohite too, made his mark with a strong display in both the races on Sunday.  He had an extremely good start in both the races. Infact, he was upto second in the first race, but exiting the last corner of the first lap, Sourav hit a patch of track with some oil spill and lost a bit of pace. This gave others the chance to close down on him as Dhruv had to settle for the third place. In second race too, he showed determination to keep Sandeep Kumar at bay to finish with 2 podium finishes on Sunday.

Result:  Race 2 (15 laps): 1. Karminder Singh (Delhi) 17mins, 05.639secs, 2. Jeet Jhabakh (Hyderabad) 17:19.305, 3. Dhruv Mohite (Kolhapur) 17:20.487.
