Jaikumar, Deepika emerge top runners

Pune: Jaikumar Gawde and Deepika Kotiyan emerged as the fastest in their respective categories to clinch gold medals in the 100 metre run in the Pune District Athletic Meet held at Baburao Sanas Ground on Friday.

Jaikumar of Uniuque Sports left behind his team mate Pratik Gawde and Shubham Dhumal of Deccan Gymkhana to secure top spot.

Among the women, Janhavi Yerwadekar from Deccan Gymkhana and Tejashree Bhagat from PSA bagged silver and bronze medals respectively after Deepika from Central Excise pipped them to clinch the gold medal.

Nishant Joshi from Deccan Gymkhana struck gold in 400 metre run with a timing of 50.4 seconds ahead of Devesh Tambde and Kuldeep Patil respectively.

100 metre: 1. Jaikumar Gawde, 2. Pratik Gawde, 3. Shubham Ghumal.
400 metre: 1. Nishant Joshi (50. 4 seconds), 2. Devesh Tambde, 3. Kuldeep Patil.
Triple Jump: 1. Mangesh Kadam (12.24 metre), 2. Nayan Waghela, Sultan Sheikh.
Shotput: 1. Balwinder Singh (14.70 metre), 2. Melwit Thomas, 3. Nikhil More.
Women:
100 metre: 1. Deepika Kotiyan, 2. Janhavi Yerwadekar, 3. Tejashree Bhagat.
400 metre: 1. Yumana Ladkat, 2. Urmilla Gord, 3. Anushka Nalwade.
Long Jump: 1. Juili Badhe (9.30 metres), 2. Chinmayee Vatrak, 3. Ira Devkule.
Triple Jump: 1. Paurnima MarneĀ  (10.49 metres), 2. Amruta Farak, 3. Mahuriva Ubhe.
