RANCHI: Gujarat Fortunegiants dominated as they defeated U Mumba 45-23 during a Pro Kabaddi match at the Harivansh Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium, Ranchi here on Wednesday.
This was the match which could not be played during the Mumbai leg due to heavy rains and flood on August 29 and had to be cancelled as the teams could not make it to the venue.
Gujarat Fortunegiants started with two successful raids from Sachin as they set their tempo. The Mumbai boys also picked up pace with captain Anup Kumar scoring a super tackle and a bonus point by Kashiling Adake as they scores were close.
Gujarat then started gaining a grip on the match with points coming in at regular intervals with Sachin displaying a good game. The Fortunegiants led with the score of 24-12 at half time. Meanwhile it was time for the Mumbai lads to pull up their socks and come back stronger.
In the second half, Gujarat Fortunegiants continued from where they left and continued to build on the lead. Sachin who crossed 100 raid points this season was in good form kept delivering with good raids thus helping Gujarat run the show. In the end it were the Gujarat lads who triumphed with the score of 45-23.
Gujarat coach Manpreet Singh was all praise for his team. “The team played really well. All the players showed good team work. We prepared well for the match. We played two matches with U Mumba at this venue which made things easy for us,” Singh said at the post match press conference.
“Sachin and Chandran Ranjit both scored Super 10’s and played well. It was a team effort,” the coach added.
Gujarat Fortunegiants 45 (Chandran Ranjit 11, Sachin 10, Fazel Atrachali 6, Mahendra Rajput 3, Abozar Mighani 3) beat U Mumba 23 (Anup Kumar 7, Shrikant Jadhav 5, Kashiling Adake 3, E Subhash 3, Darshan Kadian 3).
