Goa’s Cedrik Da Silva wins Extreme class

Spread over two days, the competition had 38 competitors (off-roaders) dare the challenge laid out at the Satav Patil Farms, Chokhi Dhani Road, Wagholi in two categories—Intermediate and Extreme respectively.

PUNE: Goa duo Cedric Da Silva and his co-driver Aster Dias proved a formidable pair and topped the Extreme (Petrol) Category in the Pune Pathfinders-Off-Road Carnival 2017 held over the weekend. 

Working past six Special Stages, which included steep and near-90 degree climbs and drops, the Goans finished with 440 points out of a possible 600.

Spread over two days, the competition had 38 competitors (off-roaders) dare the challenge laid out at the Satav Patil Farms, Chokhi Dhani Road, Wagholi in two categories—Intermediate and Extreme respectively.

Run on the lines and standards of international off-road events, the off roaders were judged on Time (fastest to slowest) and Penalty Points (PP).

The team with the fastest timed earned a maximum of 100 points per SS, while the count back (runners up and third place) was worked out on a difference of 1 point.  Simply put, the runners up stood to get 99 points.

As the Extreme Category was run over six Special Stages the total worked out to be 600 points.

Similarly, Point Penalties was handed out to all unfinished mandatory tasks meant to be completed on each Special Stages.

Each penalty meant a deduction of 10 points from the total points logged after competitors were classified based on their time.

The terrain proved to be a challenge and was evident in the Extreme Category wherein from the two competitors in Petrol 4x4s, Cedric-Aster came through, while second placed Mumbai team of Sam Chunawalla and Afforz Khan had a breakdown on Day 1 in SS2.

The Diesel 4x4s was bagged by Belgaum’s Rahul Patil and Dr. Santosh Pattar who finished with 140 points and was followed by Pune’s Ajit Bacche and Sameer Yadav (100 pts).

The Intermediate Category Diesel 4x4s, run over eight Special Stages (4 on each day), was a close affair and was decided on a 2-point difference. Shahad NK and Siraj of Kerala (573/ 800 pts) edging out Mouddin Saddam and Abdul Saleem (Gulbarga; 571).

The Petrol 4x4s had the highest points logged during the day with Kapil Bhobe and Maithili Bhobe of Goa finishing with 664 out of 800 points.

Petrol: 1. Kapil Bhobe and Maithili Bhobe (Goa) 664/800 points); 2. Ibrahim Shaikh and Imran Garag (Goa) 519.
Diesel: 1. Shahad NK and Siraj (Kerala) 573; 2. Mouddin Saddam and Abdul Saleem (Gulbarga) 571.
Extreme (Chief’s Challenge Trophy):
Petrol: 1. Cedrik Da Silva and Aster Dias (Goa) 440/600; 2. Sam Chunawalla and Afforz Khan (Mumbai) 40.
Diesel: 1. Rahul Patil and Dr. Santosh Pattar (Belgaum) 140; 2. Ajit Bacche and Sameer Yadav (Pune) 100.
