Ghorpadi Young Ones, St Vincent’s triumph

Ghorpadi Young Ones and St Vincent’s HS emerged winners in the open and inter-school sections of the inaugural Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) Bicentennial Football Tournament, at Ghorpadi Bazar football ground, here on Saturday.

Pune:  Ghorpadi Young Ones and St Vincent’s HS emerged winners in the open and inter-school sections of the inaugural Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) Bicentennial Football Tournament, at Ghorpadi Bazar football ground, here on Saturday.

In the finals, St Vincent’s H.S settled with a 2-0 verdict over Anglo Urdu H.S to annex the Under-17 Inter School title, while Ghorpadi Young Ones staged a 4-3 comeback victory over City Club after fighting out a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
St Vincent’s led by a brace from the top scorer of the tournament Zephaniah M (18th & 27th) dashed the run of Anglo Urdu HS.

Later, Ghorpadi Young Ones found themselves in arrears when City Club went ahead via a strike from Riyyan Saw (19th). It took Ghorpadi Young Ones eight minutes thereafter to level terms when Richard Francis scored in the 27th minute.

With neither team managing to score further the match ended 1-1. In the tie-breaker, Vishal Angirwal, Richard Francis and Prabhu Bhandari found the net for Ghorpadi Young Ones, while City Club had just Russel Pillay and Vicky Pardeshi gain success from the spot. For Ghorpadi, Ruturaj Patil missed his attempt while Sanket Sankpal, Riyyan Saw and Azam Qureshi missed for City Club.
