PUNE: The defending champions of Indian Super League (ISL), Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) has one unwanted records against their name. The Kolkata outfit has never managed to beat FC Pune City (FCPC) in the ISL history and the history repeated once again at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Saturday.

The Stallions, earlier in the season had thrashed ATK 4-1 away and once again handed the visitors 3-0 drubbing to consolidate their third spot.

Central defender Adil Khan for the third time this season scored with a header to give FCPC 1-0 half-time lead, while two sublime strikes from Brazilian winger Diego Carlos and Pune’s academy graduate Rohit Kumar sealed the deal for the home side as they tightened their top four position with 19 points.

Early domination
Pune, despite their good show against Kerala Blasters and Chennaiyin FC in their previous two matches, had salvaged only a point. But playing on home turf, they dominated the proceedings from the start.

FC Pune City finally made their early domination count in the 32nd minute. Marcelino delivered a corner kick and Khan once again made a trademark late run into the box, which no ATK defender picked, as Khan’s towering header found the back of the net.

Pune went into breather 1-0 ahead, as Jewel Raja had saved Pune from conceding.

In the second half as well, the 29-year-old Carlos was causing Atletico backline all the trouble with his marauding runs down the left flank.

In the 59th minute, Carlos darted straight at ATK goal. With no Atletico player closing him down, he dribbled his way onto the edge of the penalty box and with a sublime strike, found the far bottom corner of the net leaving diving Mujumdar no chance whatsoever.

With legs tiring at the close of the play, and Pune sitting comfortably, the Stallions’ academy graduate Rohit Kumar put the cherry on the top with another class finish, picking up the ball in the mid-field, selling dummy’s to Atletico players and finding the back of the net with a thunderous shot.

RESULT:
FC Pune City 3 (Adil Khan 32nd, Diego Carlos 59th, Rohit Kumar 77th) beat Atletico de Kolkata 0.
