Pune: FC Pune City girls won an all Pune battle defeating United Poona Sports Academy (UPSA) 3-0 to clinch the title of the WIFA Women's Championship which was held at the Cooperage ground on Monday.

Hongpluh Senorita gave FC Pune City an early lead as she scored in the fifth minute. Later Adam Muriel doubled the lead in the 10th minute to make it 2-0 in favour of FC Pune City.

Senorita struck again in the 22nd minute to seal the deal for FC Pune City girls as they walked home with the trophy.

FC Pune City head coach Mohan Dass expressed satisfaction about the performance of the team. “The entire  team played a good game. All the district champions and runners-up participated in this tournament. We lost the first match against Aadhar Pratishtan. The game against them was a good one but we conceded in the last moment,” Dass informed.
Adding further the coach said “We then won matches on a trot against Nagpur and Kolhapur which was a confidence booster for the team. In the semi-final we played against Bodyline SC who were the favorites to win. It is one of the best team in Mumbai. Everyone thought that they would win. We took a lead and I analysed the game of the opponent. I planned the game accordingly and we were able to get through.”

In the final, FC Pune City faced UPSA, a team from Pune who have been impressive in the tournament.

“Since they are a Pune team, we knew their game. They were playing only on defence mode. We got an early lead and manged to keep it, and in the end the match ended in our favour,” Dass said.

Speaking about the condition of girls football in the city Dass said “The situation is good currently. A lot of girls are coming out and playing. They are also getting a lot of opportunities as they get to play with different clubs. It is a bright future as far as girls football is concerned.

Result:
FC Pune City 3 (Hongpluh Senorita 5th, 22nd, Adam Muriel 10th) bt United Poona Sports Academy (UPSA) 0.
